Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program
Cultivating Tomorrow’s Environmental Leaders
We know the students of today are the environmental leaders of tomorrow. That's why Toyota originally joined its long-time partner, Earth Day Canada, to create the Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program in 2003.
The program honours 15 graduating high school students and Quebec junior college students with a $5,000 award for their environmental work in the community. The award is applied directly towards educational expenses for the first year of post-secondary full-time studies in Canada.
A national award winner is then chosen from the 15 regional finalists. The national winner is honoured with an Outstanding Environmental Achievement Award, a Panasonic notebook computer, and a $5,000 donation to the high school from which the award-winner graduated.
Today's students are no strangers to environmental responsibility. Time and again, young Canadians have shown their willingness and ability to become actively involved in environmental solutions.
We, at Toyota, have been very pleased with the results thus far of the Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program. The response by young Canadians making a difference to the environment has been overwhelming. That is why we continue to offer this program and look forward to making winners of more environmentally conscious and conscientious young Canadians in the future. To date, $425,000 has been awarded to 85 exceptional young Canadians through this program.
Toyota Canada feels that environmental leadership is important and that corporations need to show leadership. The Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program is only one of the ways we are doing that. It is our sincere hope that it will encourage others to step forward to meet tomorrow's environmental challenges.
