Towing Over 4,500 kg (9,900 lbs.)?
This fall is clean up time again. For many of us it means putting our summer stuff away. Often our stuff needs to be towed in a trailer. If you happen to tow something in Ontario that is more than 4,500 kg (9,900 lbs.) you will need a special permit. Most people refer to it as the ‘Yellow Sticker’. The official name is the Commercial Vehicle Operators’ Registration (CVOR). Don’t be misled by the word ‘commercial’ in the name. If you own a vehicle in this class, you will need a CVOR sticker. For instance, our own Tundra pick-up has a gross vehicle weight of approximately 3,200 kg (7,000 lbs.) and can tow up to 4,535 kg (10,000 lbs.). It falls into CVOR requirements.
Here is everything you need to know about obtaining a CVOR before you start towing your stuff. Don’t get caught on the highway without a CVOR this fall.
